Yellowstone

It’s August 2, 2012. Tonight we find ourselves in Butte, Montana after a great day at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. It’s been a long day, so I’ll do what a did yesterday…keep it short and share my favourite images of the day.

Yellowstone was beautiful! I didn’t know that the park extends over three states – Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. I also didn’t realize how big Yellowstone Lake is or that there was THAT MUCH geyser activity. Of course I knew about Old Faithful, but there are literally dozens of other geysers, mud volcanos, hot springs, and fumeroles.

Enjoy the photos!

Beartooth Cafe – Cooke City, Montana – Northeast entrance to Yellowstone. Cool place!!!

Snow at the mountain pass before entering Yellowstone.

Yellow-bellied marmot.

Beautiful hot springs near Old Faithful.

Huge crowd waits for Old Faithful

Old Faithful awakes.

What everyone was waiting for.

New Horizons

ImageIt’s July 15, 2012.  Here we go again…another family trip. This time, we are travelling back to Deep River, Ontario through the U.S. We plan to drive through Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan before we re-enter Ontario. 8 states…not bad.

But like our family trip across Canada 5 years ago, I realize there is much I don’t know about the world around me. I have had to answer so many questions in the planning of this trip. Questions such as…”How far is it to…” and “Where is…”. This is why I love these roadtrips – there is so much to learn and discover.

ImageImageIn preparation, I went to BCAA this week hoping to have them prepare a “TripTik” for me. A TripTik is free to BCAA members and is a detailed booklet full of maps. Your journey is broken down into legs and the booklet is much easier to use than large maps. I was disappointed to learn that several weeks are needed to prepare the TripTik, so I unfortunately had to settle for traditional maps. Lesson learned!

I look forward to spending time with my family, discovering new horizons, and sharing my learning on the way!
